Annual Point Lookout Memorial Service and Meeting
November 3, 2025
Good Evening,
Thank you everyone for being with us either physically or in thoughts, for the Annual Point Lookout Memorial Service and Descendants meeting on October 11th, 2025. God shined on Confederate Memorial Park and the weather held out all day. Approximately one hundred people were in attendance and what a beautiful service.
Dedication of the Maryland Monument took place during the Point Lookout Memorial Service (Picture Below). We will be accepting and installing Memorial Bricks for CSA Maryland Soldiers around the sidewalk of the Maryland Monument. More information on the Maryland soldiers’ memorial bricks will be on our website soon.
Thank You to everyone that provided extra food dishes and helped serve and clean up during and after the Memorial, Diane, Nancy, Debbie John, Paul, Rose, Roslyn, and Barbara. And thank you to Rose for taking control of the Souvenir Shop.
Everything happens all at once.
On October 8th, delivered were the recent Memorial Brick orders and we were honored to have installed them before the Point Lookout Memorial. Donors should have received a picture of their Memorial Brick. We have six memorial brick orders of the ten needed to send to the supplier.
After a couple of years of planning, Friday October 10th, installation of a beautiful Memorial Bench for Pvt. George W. Carper and those that survived Point Lookout only to succumb to diseases contracted likely from Point Lookout Prison Camp completed the serene feelings of that area at Confederate Memorial Park. We have had so many visitors, one this past Friday, who tell us the stories of their ancestors that did survive point lookout but died from disease. Also, the hardships and strength of women providing for their children without their spouse.
Thanks to RJ, the Point Lookout Memorial Service was live streamed and added to YouTube. Link to the YouTube video of the Point Lookout Memorial Service: https://youtu.be/j5GyNLwvExE
Thank you, Charles, for taking over three hundred pictures of the Point Lookout Memorial Service. We have gone through them and thanks to Pam, our webmaster, she has added the best on our website.
Like we say if you have not heard from us, chances are, we are at Confederate Memorial Park doing something. Soon after the Point Lookout Memorial and after years of negotiating and waiting, on October 25th, Confederate Memorial Park received the Benjamin Welch Owens Monument. Thank you to Terry, Bishop Jones, Father Rob, the vestry of Mount Calvary Anglican Church for negotiating a perpetual loan for Confederate Memorial Park to receive the monument. Richard and Tracy for transporting the monument down to Confederate Memorial Park, Bill for the numerous trips to the church, measuring for the plinth and foundation base, Bruce and Paul for digging out the huge base for the foundation, that had roots the size of trees, Caruth and Sons, Ready Mix Concrete for the donation of the cement used for the base and all that helped offload the monument and were present at CMP with us for its arrival, Richard and Tracy, Bruce, Dennis and Barbara, TJ, and Roslyn.
The monument was an overwhelming and beautiful site coming down the road. It is not on display yet. We have more work to do and meticulously construct a plinth for the monument and it will be rededicated next year at the Point Lookout Memorial Service October 10th, 2026.
